How to play Mega Millions
Mega Millions is a multi-state lottery drawing held every Tuesday and Friday night at 11:00 p.m. Eastern. To play, a ticket buyer selects five numbers from 1 to 70 for the white balls, plus one additional number from 1 to 24 for the gold Mega Ball. Tickets can also be purchased with a computer-generated Quick Pick if a player prefers not to choose their own numbers.
Every Mega Millions ticket automatically includes a random prize multiplier — 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X, or 10X — at no extra cost. The multiplier boosts every non-jackpot prize, including the second-tier prize for matching all five white balls. The jackpot itself is never multiplied. Jackpot winners can choose between an annuity paid over 29 years or a reduced lump-sum cash payment, both before applicable federal and state taxes.
